Two Temple Place

Opened during winter 2011 in William Waldorf Astor’s neo-Gothic mansion, this is the first museum specifically dedicated to showcasing publicly-owned art from the UK’s regional collections. The building itself is one of London's secret architectural delights – a lavish, eccentric, late Victorian mansion built on the Embankment. After you've admired the décor, the café run by Tangerine Dream (also of the Chelsea Physic Garden) offers a welcome place to rest before checking out an exhibition. The inaugural show set a suitably English tone, looking at how William Morris was influenced by myth in his pattern and poetry. (Check the website for details of current exhibitions.)
