The Fan Museum

The Fan Museum takes visitors back through a detailed history of fans, where they were created and used over time, and how they are made. The collection contains a number of rare and treasured pieces such as the Hélène Alexander Collection, along with a whole host of gifts and acquisitions that have been added as the years have passed.

It holds examples from right across the world, ageing from the 11th century through to the present day, with the 18th and 19th century selection of European fans a particularly strong section. Along with the extensive permanent collections, temporary exhibitions pop up throughout the year, exploring enticing themes and ideas associated with fans.
