With over 1,000 dealers plying their wares, Portobello Market is the world’s largest antique market in the world. You can find almost every kind of collectable and antique you desire here, which has seen it become of the most popular markets in the city. Set in the always trendy area of Notting Hill, the lively atmosphere is always present thanks to the strong local community and wonderful pubs and restaurants.
Its name comes from Porto Bello Farm, now renamed Golborne Road, and originally named after a Panamanian town captured by the British. It wasn't until ‘rag and bone’ men begun to sell their antiques in the 1940s that the market began to gain its reputation, evolving from a simple fruit and veg market into the street we know today. Since 1996 it is also the location for the Portobello Film Festival, held annually in and round the district.
