Horse Guards Parade
Horse Guard Parade is synonymous for hosting the annual Trooping of The Colour, an event that celebrates the Monarch’s official birthday and Beating Retreat. In centuries past, the Palace of Whitehall’s tiltyard was found on the site and it held jousting tournaments under the reign of Henry VIII. It was also the Headquarters of the British Army overseen by the commanding Duke of Wellington.
2012 saw it become home for beach volleyball during the 2012 Summer Olympics. The temporary courts were surrounded by 15,000 seats and it quickly became one of the most popular sites during the games. The space has continued to be adapted over time to welcome rock concerts and further athletic events during the summer.
