BBC Broadcasting House
Home of the world renowned broadcaster, the BBC, British Broadcasting House is its headquarters, found a short distance away from Oxford Street. The building was opened in 1932, although the very first radio broadcast took place two months earlier. Inside the Grade II listed building there is a radio theatre, where some of the nation’s most famous music and spoken word programmes have been recorded with a live studio audience.
The Art Deco architecture gives the building its distinct style, although over the years it has been continually extended and renovated. Some of the radio stations that broadcast from the building include; BBC World Service, BBC Radio 3, 4 and 4 Extra, along with BBC Arabic and Persian television studios located in the John Peel wing.
