Since it was founded by Terence Conran in 1989, the Design Museum has pioneered exhibitions across product, graphic and architectural design.
The iconic white building is a former 1940s banana warehouse, but more recently it has played host to Jonathan Ive in his pre-Apple days, Zaha Hadid’s first solo show and a retrospective of Conran himself in 2011. (The first floor Blue Print Café is one of Conran’s many restaurants, and has great views of the Thames.) The Museum will move to the vast Commonwealth Institute in Kensington in 2014, but in the meantime, you can enjoy temporary exhibitions and a semi-permanent display of design objects selected from the collection.
